“DeepSeek is a tool that perpetuates Communist China’s agenda—full stop. It exposes Americans’ data to our adversary’s government, lies to its users and exploits American workers’ AI advances. We can’t afford for U.S. officials to play into Beijing’s hands by hosting this hostile bot on their devices.”

WASHINGTON – Sens. Jon Husted (R-Ohio) and Jacky Rosen (D-Nev.) today introduced bipartisan legislation to prohibit the use of DeepSeek—a new artificial intelligence (AI) platform with direct ties to the Chinese Communist Party—on all government devices and networks.

“DeepSeek is a tool that perpetuates Communist China’s agenda—full stop. It exposes Americans’ data to our adversary’s government, lies to its users and exploits American workers’ AI advances. We can’t afford for U.S. officials to play into Beijing’s hands by hosting this hostile bot on their devices. Our bill is an urgent first step toward protecting our citizens, government and economy from China’s Communist Party,” said Husted.

DeepSeek poses a potentially major national security threat, as it shares data that it collects with the People’s Republic of China government and its intelligence agencies.

“As the artificial intelligence landscape continues to rapidly expand, the U.S. must take steps to ensure Americans’ data and government systems remain protected against platforms—like DeepSeek—that are linked to our adversaries. This bipartisan legislation takes proactive steps to ban DeepSeek on all U.S. government devices, helping to further safeguard sensitive government data from the Chinese Communist Party,” said Rosen.

“DeepSeek poses serious security risks to Americans who use the platform. It should not be on government devices. This bipartisan bill ensures that DeepSeek does not expose our government to potential national security risks—or give our data to Communist China,” said Sen. Pete Ricketts (R-Neb.), who cosponsored the bill.

Several U.S. states and allied nations have already moved to block DeepSeek from government devices due to critical security concerns.
