“Tonight, the president outlined what he’s doing to make our country secure, strong and prosperous—and that’s exactly why Ohioans sent him back to Washington. I’ve seen
the president in action, and I’m going to keep working to put American families, workers
and values first.”
WASHINGTON – Sen. Jon Husted (R-Ohio) made this statement following President
Donald Trump’s Joint Address to Congress this evening.
“Ohioans voted for a Republican trifecta in Washington for only the fourth time in
modern history because they believe President Trump and Congressional
Republicans will bring common sense solutions and accountability to
Washington.
“Tonight, we heard about how the president is keeping that promise. The criminal
illegal immigrants and violent cartels who have poured through our open borders
have threatened Ohioans’ safety and their jobs. I am encouraged President Trump
and his administration are already securing our border and enforcing our laws.
“Importantly, President Trump is keeping his promises through his work to
control the inflation caused by the Biden administration’s reckless spending of
trillions of dollars on the backs of American taxpayers. The president is exposing
and ending waste, fraud and abuse in Washington every day. I talked with him
just a few days ago about how Congress is doing its part to stop irresponsible
and foolish federal spending.
“Ohio families have to balance their household budgets. They don’t have the
luxury of wasting money they don’t have, and President Trump is forcing the
federal bureaucracy to live by the same reality.
“He’s also tackling inflation by supporting sustainable, affordable American
energy. Skyrocketing energy prices have made almost everything cost more when
Ohioans go to the grocery store or gas pump. In the Senate, I helped pass a
budget resolution to make President Trump’s America First agenda a permanent
reality.
